Match report Radlett are U9 champions after a fantastically mature performance saw them chase down 257.
Redbourn started very aggressively with the final's opening over from Freddie going for 14 and the last two balls of it going for 6 and 4.George then pegged back Redbourn's batsmen with the first of his 3 wickets.However,Redbourn kept going after the bowling and after 19 came off an over from Theo, the score had hit 250 after 7 overs despite the loss of two wickets-massive by U9 standards.Redborun has amalgamated their two league teams and were looking very strong. Radlett kept plugging away with Sachen picking up wickets before George came back for the 10th over and picked up two crucial wickets and finished a superb spell with 3-5. Back to 240 Redbourn recovered to 257, a gettable total but it would require good batting and strong nerves a big ask for a young team batting second,particularly Radlett who are collectively prone to nerves.
The boys got off to the worst of starts with george being bowled in the first over.After Ben and George had battled against a good opening pair Radlett were struggling on 203-1.Sachen and Shreyas were solid taking the score to 219-still behind the asking rate.In came Freddie and Josh but when Josh was caught in his first over,we feared the worst.However,the third pair stuck at it both hitting fours including one mighty blow from Freddie that bounced just inside the boundary. Although Freddie was caught of a flashing cut,they had taken the score to 242-15 needed off the last 4 overs eminently gettable but a wicket would turn it.
Enter Bobby and Theo. Bobby had been in fine form but when he was immediately bowled in the 13 th over Redbourn thought they had the game won.Bobby and Theo had other ideas,both hitting boundaries and nervelessly chasing down the total.
An excellent win and a nerve shredding experience for all the spectators!!
