North Mymms II v Radlett CC 3rd XI on Sat 01 May 2004 at 1:30
Match was Drawn
Match report
Radlett were undone by one opposition player today, without whom they would have outclassed North Mymms instead of limping away with a draw.
The Mymms groundsman had worked miracles to produce any sort of wicket to play after a very wet week.
Jonathan Tricker, the new captain, won the toss, and elected to bowl on this sopping wicket and outfield. After a superb opening spell from Tricker and Ollie Robertson, Mymms were reduced to 34 for 4. Then it changed. Rawle batted brilliantly to take his team to 201 for 5 after their 53 overs. He scored 115 not out.
Add this to his four wickets after bowling twenty-one of Mymms’ forty-seven overs, and this adds up to a side heavily dependant one one player, however good.
In the field, Radlett performed admirably, with Michael Crocker a revelation. He caught two tricky catches, and chased and threw beautifully. Mike Crocker seems to have metamorphosed from a nervous to a very competent fieldsman from one league match (2003) to the next (2004).
Tricker handled the captaincy with aplomb, and bowled beautifully. He has replaced the gaping hole left by Haxell with great skill. And he is a lot thinner.
Robertson bowled extremely well with two important wickets, and overall the Radlett fielding was sharp. But 202 to win was always going to be difficult.
Radlett lost Mike Crocker to a goodish ball, and their best bat, Brendon Hutchings to a freakish dismissal. Oz Edwards stopped the rot, but it was Ingram who was the main feature, hitting four sixes and seven fours in his 83. When he was out, the score was 110 for 5, such was his dominance, and when he was out, to a tired and unworthy shot, the game was up.
It was left to Hardy, who batted with good sense, and Robertson to bat out the draw, which they did with some ease.
Although Radlett gained paltry points from this game, they played well, and would have won but for one player who was playing below his level. There is much to be optimistic for, despite this false and unproductive start.
