Kings Langley v Radlett CC U11 on Wed 07 May 2008 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won Radlett won by 9 wickets
What’s this? For the first time in what seems like a lifetime, the sun is shining, no clouds, no thermals, jumpers, umbrellas or Bovril required to keep the boys or the parents warm!
The joy of seeing a game of cricket in t-shirt and shorts is tempered slightly by the fact only 5 boys have made it for the start of the game! Meeps tries hard to stall the start but after Ramitha loses the toss the proceedings get underway at 6.30pm.
Kings Langley obviously thought they could give our fielders the run around before reinforcements arrived. Kings Langley openers looked quite useful but managed to scupper their early promise by mixing up the running and a smart throw from Ramitha gets their danger man out. Meeps was too busy on the phone and missed another run out by Sam but not to worry Ramitha gets his man by bowling him middle stump. 2 balls later and with the bit firmly between his teeth Ramitha takes another wicket with a superb low catch off his own bowling.
3 down after 2 overs. The cavalry arrives with four more of the boys turning up and after 4 overs the score is 15 for 3. The last two stragglers arrive and by the half way point after some very tidy bowling from Sam Ivens and Alex the score is 30 for 3. Nice tight bowling gets Yiannis off to a wicket maiden in his first over bowling King Langley’s tricky no 4 middle stump. More bails go flying when Yiannis gets his next wicket with only a wide to blemish his figures.
Stumps are getting knocked over regularly as Amman gets in on the action with a wicket in his first over. Score after 15 overs is 39 for 6. A maiden from Amman’s next over and Sam G tightens the screws with just one off his first over. Yiannis skittles another 1 out with a lovely ball. Sam G finishes off the two innings with 3 off his last over leaving the score at 49 for 7.
Very well bowled boys!
Jack and Guy get to start the batting with two decent shots but due to the outfield resembling the deep rough at St Andrews they only yield 2 runs.
Oh dear! A silly run out from an overthrow puts Jack in the pavilion and Guy into his bad books.
A lovely 4 off his legs gets Yiannis off the mark. At the end of the fourth over it’s 13 for 1. Another 4 from Yiannis in the fifth over then two more sweetly hit fours by our new player edges the score to 28 for 1 off six overs Yiannis clearly has something nice for tea when he gets home as he wants to get things finished off asap! He does so by hitting the remaining runs all in the boundary.
Radlett get their required runs with just the loss of Jack’s wicket (listen to his call Guy!) and in under ten overs.
A great performance by all with only a couple of things that need addressing in training.
Yiannis is awarded Man of the Match with his 3 wickets and……runs!! He’ll have to be put down the order or the other boys wont get a chance to bat!
Well played all of you….two wins out of two matches….keep it up!....see you at Radlett for our next match….
