Radlett CC U12 v Abbots Langley on Tue 20 May 2008 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won 5 wickets
Match report
Radlett just edged a close game. Loose bowling was again Radlett's weakness as the extras they gifted the visitors resulted in them having to chase a challenging target in the dark. Again.36 extras were donated to Abbotts who were surprised at how poorly we bowled and fielded. Not as surprised as I was. I had thought that the ring rustiness at Shenley Village would have worked through the boys' systems by now.Fortunately we have a lot of bowlers.8 were used tonight and this may well be the pattern unless the regular bowlers can find their form and, preferably, the cut strip.
Harry, Luke, Joseph and Will bowled reasonably tidily but the fielding was extremely poor.Jack D and Luke took good catches but we were never able to apply pressure such was the flow of extras and wides(25).
Abbotts chose to bat and began brightly with Parkins playing a range of attacking shots before being caught on the backward point boundary by Luke off Harry for 16.The other Abbotts batsmen could not match his fluency but Kotecha with 20 and Rossiter with 25 laid the foundation for their total of 108-5.
As in the last match,Radlett's batting looked excellent. It looked as if Radlett were going to make short work of the target at first as Will and Jaimin reached 29 off 4 overs before Kotecha yorked Jaimin for an aggressive 14 including a crashing 4 back over long off. Will and Joe then put on a cultured display adding 50 before both retired on 30 and 32 respectively.
Abbotts seized their opportunity fielding tigerishly and applying pressure to the new batsmen.4 batsmen fell cheaply, two bowled in the seventeenth over by Rossiter as Radlett had a wobble. It has to be said that this wobble was precipitated by Harry being given out caught behind for 2, a decision which seemed a tad harsh from the boundary. George had a different view but as this site attracts a family audience I won't repeat it here.Udeepa steadied the ship with three fours in his 13 runs to see his side home in a close contest-the second Meepagama to make a score on that wicket in 3 days so his Dad tells me.
The boys have some hard practice to do to start performing up to the high standards they are capable of.At the moment they are making it hard for themselves and whichever unfortunate has to keep wicket. With more concentration they can get back to making it hard for the opposition!
