A close defeat that was entirely down to a ring rusty bowling performance.We gave away 14 wides which at 2 runs a go handed Shenley Village a huge advantage.Shenley Village really had only 2 quality batsman, Charlie Thurston who plays for the County U13s hit a powerful 32 retd whilst Balogun of the County U12s hit strongly at the end for 28.Joe was unquestionably pick of the bowlers, the only one really to bowl accurately.
It was particularly disappointing to lose in the failing light as I think we batted consistently better than the opposition.Jaimin and Will hit their second successive 50 partnership against SV and were up with the rate having largely seen off the oppo's county bowlers, Jaimin smiting 2 fours off Balogun. Will went caught and bowled for 28 in the 10th over with the score 51,having hit 4 classy boundaries. Joe then bedded in before smashing three 4s in a over to get us back in contention after 3 sticky overs had gone for only 11 to put us behind the rate.
Unfortunately Jaimin and Joe both reached 30 in the 17th over bringing 2 fresh batsmen Harry and Alex to the crease in deteriorating light.4 overs, 32 needed. It wasn't quite on as the field spread and our big guns were unable to hit the boundaries we needed.Giles smashed a fine 4 in the last over but we were 6 runs short- and wondering what might have been without 28 runs conceded in wides.....
These are two well matched teams and the standard was very high. We will be back with a bang when our bowlers have the early season ring rustiness out of their system. Let's hope the batsmen are still in this form when that happens!
