Match report Having struggled to win a game all season, Radlett CC 1st XI urgently needed to play their home fixture against Finchampstead on Saturday for the chance of avoiding relegation from the IC3premiership. Heavy rain during all of the week left gallons of rain water on the covers and sheets surrounding the square at Cobden Hill.

Having removed the covers, a large amount of surface water was still present, so the ground staff at Cobden Hill were left with no other option but to call in the clubs air support for some serious drying. Pilots from HeliAir skilfully manoeuvred the 4 seater helicopter for over an hour in an attempt to dry the ground for the game.

Commenting on the airborne events "it was essential that we played, so we came up with a plan, pulled a few strings and asked the question if it was possible, fortunately the answer was yes" said Chairman of facilities Jon Tricker.

The efforts of the pilots and the ground staff enabled Radlett to play what would have been a cancelled game, and the local team went on to secure their first win by an impressive 6 wickets.

Stuart Browne (4-69) and Shane Burger (5-51) created a middle order collapse which resulted in Finchampstead being confined to 183.

In reply, Radlett stuttered initially with the early loss of both openers but Matt Evans (71*) played majestically and with support from Shane Burger (38) and Dan Chippeck (31) ensured the target was reached with overs to spare.
