Winchmore Hill v Radlett CC Sunday III on Sun 22 Jun 2008 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
The Radlett Young Lions were released from the cage to the Wilds of N21 to play a Chess Valley League Game against what turns out to be the Winchmore Hill Vets XI.
A pulsating game which had everything was played, including some fabulous fielding, some aggressive intent, one or two minor altercations, some wonderful batting and a fabulous tea!
Under the Stewardship of Don Guerrini of Rainham, captain Shamit Nathwani, the elder statesman of the side at 18 and a half wins the toss and decides to bat. Left hnded openers Malde N and Mehta proceed with caution against a wily attack, until Hasit is done by a late swinger from the burly Morrison. Matt strides to the wicket and strides back as he is done by a good catch by 14 year old Vet Chris Richards.
Neel and Kailash repair the damage as Bernie and Claire Soffair arrive to watch Matt bat, so are told to go the nets!!! Kailash looks full of intent but is undone by another good catch this time from Dad Peter Richards. Neel and Luca move on without alarm and Neel brings up his 50 with a lovely pull for 4. Neel's third on the bounce or the Sunday 3's. Just as momentummis beig built up against some cagey and experienced bowling Luca is run out at the non strikers end having backed up too far and Kenny's fingertips deflecting Neels drive onto the stumps.
Shamit and Neel keep the innings ticking without really accelerating and Neel brings up a well deserved 100.
We post 194 which I reckon is about 20 short of a par score, but over to the bowlers. A sumptious tea is enjoyed and the boys return like caged lions to the field.
Phil Simmons and Daniel Cohen open the bowling and get an early wicket each with 2 fantastic balls. Daniel gets Calder, who scored 74 last week with a "ripper" that has the batsman purring in the pavilion with how good a ball it was. Phil gets Balsam with a nip backer and the pups dream is alive. Enter Steve Page, who has played 1st team crickt for any years and he hitsthe ball hard and tries to get the boys off their rhythm, but they all stuck at it and when the "tea Cosied clad" Keiran Collopy snares Page for 37 the dream is very much alive.
However the experienced and good players Litlewood and Young, eventually steer Winchmore Hill to a win in the 43r over as the boys just could not make a further breakthrough despite Daniel hitting the stumps and the bails not falling.
A good game against a very experienced, competitive and well drilled Winchmore Hill Vets, who trounced an almost full strength Alexandra Park the week before in 30 overs
Positives
The boys were competitive but must learn to channel this in the right direction,. When the game is over hands MUST be shaken.
The fielding was terrific, with Kailash and Matt Soffair leading by example.
Neels batting is terrific at the moment and whilst I do not want to lose him Shane must have a look at him.
Daniel, Phil and Hasit and Keiran showed control and have exciting futures.
Shamee bowled well but needs to learn to bowl at off stump. A more severe umpire would have wided him alot He does however spin it.
Matt, Kailash, Olly and Shamit were fantastic in the field. Luca impressed behind the stumps.
Negatives
We need to learn to hit the ball harder at the death, to try and pinch that extra 20 runs.
In the field we need to be alert to the singles and not sit on our heels but always walk in.
Stay away from confrontations and let the umpires umpire.
Overall a loss but an acceptable loss.
