Radlett CC Sunday III v Potters Bar on Sun 01 Jun 2008 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Lost by 4 runs
Match report
I could start by saying that I am disappointed in the loss and in a way disappointed at how Potters Bar played the game but I am going to ignore all the above and be positive.
With a very young side selectd and another 12 year badgering me since Tuesday night about whether he could play we went with trepidation into the Academy game, with 1 12 year old 2 13 year olds 3 14 year old 2 15 year olds 1 16 year old and Felix and Robbie Crocker a late replacement for a drinking Ashley Tillett.
We started with about 8 payers present and the skipper en route having eaten some salmon en crute! John Barr was at the ground and we decided to play 12 players as Harry B was late (not the first time but will be the last) and Felix was en route. Robbie and Dave Rock decided to dicuss the toss nd an amicable toss was won by Robbie who decided that Radlett should bowl first agaist an older Potters Bar side.
The bowlin was a revelation wih young Joe Lewis, having first go with the brightened cherry along with Daniel. To say that Joe outbowled Daniel is not an exaggetration and Felix and Robbie handles him brilliantly. Joe snared the first wicket with a lovely outswinger well held by John Barr. Potters Bar tried to attack and never really got on top of anyone but they copuld not get much momentum and we kept taing wickets every time they got a partnership going.
Josh Mcfarlane with his gentle outswingers had bowled beautifully and had 2 -16 when he came off after 6 lovely overs. Shameel Ahmed bowed his 8 overs with flight and guile and was rewarded with 2 more wickets. We are lucky at Radlett to have so many good spinners and no doubt Barks is looking over his shoulder at Shameel and Sahil Shah. Their skipper Dave Rock had played a good innings until he was snared by Felix with a very well taken catch by Joe Lewis.
Felix then brought Josh Mc back and he took 2 more wickets to fnish the innings and Daniel had 2 catches dropped (Felix still owes him a pint!!!)
To restrict Potters Bar to 138 was a good effort but would not be easy to get.
Felix and Robbie handled the young side well and gave great encouragement to all the boys and even managed to keep Daniel quiet.
Robbie opened with Josh CHarles who had volunteered to open, and we got a bit bogged down and when Rob was out in the 25th over we only had 52 runs. Enter the gladiator that is Harry Benjamin, who pushed, ran fast, ran dangerously, smote hard and generally messed the bowling up with a very good 24 to get us back on track after young Jonathan Ayling had tried manfully to keep up the run chase. JB came in to give it some impetus and Felix also came in with the other basmen literally trying for suicide runs to keep Felix on strike.
We ended 4 runs short but played with grit and determination and many of the youngsters have now tasted senior style cricket. We had 16 overs bowled at us by Adults and our adults bowled 4 overs at them. All 12 player from Radlett nd 11 from Potters Bar played this game in a great spirit.
I am proud of every young player and cannot praise Felix and Robbie high enough for their careful and sensitive handling of the youngsters.
Thanks to Pierro "Don" Guerrini for umpiring all the game. Thanks to Bernie for tuering up after drinks in the second innings.
Man of the match - Josh McFarlane for his 4 wickets
Nearly man of the match - Joe Lewis (I know alot about this boy and his talented team mates in the Under 12's who will all get a chance in senior cricket over the next couple of years)
TFC award - Simon Gray Mike Crocker and Ashley Tillett for their superb berating of Daniel's beard!!!!
