Match report Radlett V cruised to their fifth win in seven games with a 132-run success over a weak Southgate Adelaide III at Queens School, Bushey.
It was a no-contest afternoon in glorious sunshine after Adelaide decided to insert and were unable to stem a torrent of runs.
Radlett's captain Charlie Randall called a halt after 40 overs with the score on 248 for two, and the visitors, left with 50 overs, crashed to 116 all out within 34 overs.
The game demonstrated the importance of availability in any club. Adelaide had been shot to pieces by absences and withdrawals. Radlett were strong, but there were alarmingly few reserves for the weekend, with Dean Caplin, 16, gamely filling in at a couple of hours notice. He held a splendid catch at mid-on and, as usual, excelled in the field -- worth his place on this discipline alone.
Shabbir Foyez and Mayur Hindocha put on 127 for the first wicket, the highest opening stand for many years. Both batsmen, though palpably dropped, cashed in well to set up the required platform for Andy Griffiths to hit a 37-ball fifty without breaking sweat.
Adelaide's realistic target was to gain one point for reaching 140. That proved beyond them after Vikram Rajput struck in the first over and John Mansell celebrated gaining a place at Oxford University with another 'wonder ball'. Spinners Matt Barrett and Randall picked up the last seven wickets between them for 20.
