Match report Hemal Malde hit his maiden league fifty -- and he nearly turned it into a century -- as Radlett V dominated a draw against promotion-chasing Met Police Bushey II in a Division 11 derby game.

Police, who had won 10 of their 13 matches, put Radlett in to bat at Queens School, located across the road from their own Bushey ground, and suffered a traumatic time with the ball as Andy Griffiths, with 55 in 53 balls, and Haberdashers schoolboy Malde, 93 not out off 86 balls, collared their attack.

Radlett batted through their 47 overs for 242 for five and had Police hanging on at 137 for eight. The visitors' decision to block for the draw was a surprise in that they gained no points from the game -- an interesting tactic, because it is unlikely that gaining no points in a game has even won promotion in Herts League history. The draw pushed Police out of the top four.

Radlett had reached 165 when the fifth wicket fell, still vulnerable, but the experienced Matt Barrett ushered Malde to a new level with clever support and the pair piled on an incredible 77 runs in seven overs. Malde, 17, hit 15 fours and a six in his innings, and Barrett finished with a run-a-ball 21, rotating the strike to perfection.

With the pitch drying out, Police found the going tough against left-arm spinner Charlie Randall (4-39) and off-spinner Barrett (2-20). There was never any momentum to the innings, and it was a question of how few runs would be scored and how many wickets. Shabbir Foyez held three catches at short extra-cover -- one a brilliant effort -- and Vikram Rajput caught one at square leg after juggling about five times.
