Match report Radlett V picked up their first Division 11 win in some style with this 97-run success at Hatfield Crusaders II, completing the club's clean sweep.

Estimates of Mike Dexter's age vary between 64 and 98, but he shrugged off his years with 90 not out to set up his own declaration of 212 for three off 45 overs, exactly halfway. In golfing terms it can be assumed Dexter easily shot his age. Crusaders had already taken the risk of putting Radlett in to bat, and they were forced into Plan B on a sound Roe Hill Hall pitch -- normally used by Cavendish in Division Three. As it happened Crusaders were bowled out for 115 and finished with no points at all.

Dexter looked in good form from the start, cutting and driving boundaries, and he put on 138 for the second wicket with Matt Barrett, in his last season with the club after accepting a post at Shrewsbury School. Barrett's lofted drives took him to a rapid 78, and the subsequent batsmen built on a commanding position to hustle Radlett to a good total.

Crusaders' reply collapsed quickly when Vikram Rajput and Barrett bowled a batsman in their first overs, Rajput going on to claim four victims. Crusaders regrouped well, but Keerti Sirimanne picked up two important wickets to keep Radlett's momentum going. Seamer Dan Cohen and off-spinner Shameel Ahmed took their opportunities to nip out a man each. When Dean Caplin clean-bowled the No 11, there were 8.4 overs remaining.

This handsome win suggested Radlett have the strength to make an impact on this division. As with all the teams, availability remains the crucial factor. Nevertheless the fifths have a group of above-average 15/16 year olds awaiting their chance, itching to get stuck in. They are the ideal supporting cast while they gain experience in men's cricket.
