Hatfield Crusaders v Radlett CC 4th XI on Sat 14 Jun 2008 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 15 Runs

Match report So to Hatfield,
A team showing 5 changes from the previous weeks disappointing result travelled the short distance to local rivals Hatfield Crusaders first XI!
Return’s for Hardy, as stand in skipper, the ‘in form’ Bell, and Toby ‘china’ Jug, along with the inclusion of two new youngsters, Shemeel and Dean, gave the team a different balance to the previous week, things would be different in the field so long as Toby didn’t field anywhere near ‘squasher Bell’!
A change of skipper forced upon the team as Wells was taking a well deserved break in Spain, following the 4th team’s physiotherapist’s advice to prevent burn out during the later stages of this season’s campaign! (Apparently he needs a rest every 6 games or so)
In the tradition of this years 4th team, Hardy won the toss! (7 from 7) and elected for the first time this year to bat, hoping the strong batting line up would post a big score and allow his variety of bowlers a good chance to pick up wickets.
The innings did not start to well with Johnson going cheaply, quickly followed by Tune, not hitting the right note this week. Hardy and Bell steadied the ship for a time, with Bell looking menacing as usual hitting the ball to all parts of the square leg boundary with great timing, after his dismissal to a brilliant straight one! Hardy was joined by Giles ‘gloves’ Mitchell who helped Radlett reach the drinks break without further problems! Drinks saw the demise of Hardy and shortly after followed by Mitchell. This brought together Zedy batting down the order due to the lateness of his arrival, poor directions given by his son! Zed (50) and Toby the Jug (20) produced a great partnership that in the main helped Radlett achieve the defendable total. The innings was finished off by some sensible batting, balancing aggression and defence, by the two youngsters Dean and Shemeel and the wily Menzies. 180-10 at tea.

In reply Hatfield started as if they were late for a BBQ, they took to the task with some big hitting not worrying that wickets were falling at regular intervals! Toby took two fine catches to go with a sharp slip catch at the second attempt by the skipper, Menzies also taking a fine catch in the out field to dismiss the danger man from Hatfield. The best moment of the day (not the pitch invasion) and arguably the turning point of the innings was when Meeps deliberately left a return chance to enable young Dean Caplin to throw the stumps down and run out the big hitter from Hatfield! The bowling in general was tight with good performances from Zed and Meeps who bowled the majority of overs. It would be good to see the two youngsters given another chance with the ball in the near future, Shemeel with his off spin bowled well, and both helped improve the quality and agility in the field, they are both promising cricketer’s and played with a great attitude.
This result has moved Radlett 4th team up 7 places from 13th to 6th in the table. 130 pts to Radlett, 12 pts to Hatfield Crusaders.
