Watford Town 11 v Radlett CC 4th XI on Sat 24 May 2008 at 1,30.p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Radlett 4’s having lost the previous 2 games went to local rivals Watford, who without a win this year looked like it would be a formality, Turn up and collect the 30pts!
Not to be, Watford had strengthened there team by including a number of 1st team players that had played at Cobden hill just a few weeks before in division 2. A few changes to the Radlett side late in the week did in no way weaken the outfit and it could be argued the balance was restored, especially with the inclusion of Captain Wells, who for the 4th time this year won the toss. Watford were asked to bat on a good track, and despite a good opening spell from Leaderman got off to a good fast start. Wells changed the attack early bringing the evergreen (or Silver) Gitay into the attack. He bowled beautifully giving nothing away and reigning in the Watford Batters. Radlett now began to dominate and were looking like a very good cricket team. Some miraculous catches especially by Leads and Meeps helped the wickets to fall. Special mention to Wells for his two very sharp slip catches. Solid hands from Oz, Hardy and Gitay completed a great fielding performance. The pick of the batting was from Watford’s overseas Van der Windmill, a very entertaining 85!
So, Radlett had been set 195 to win, and with Hardy joining Bell to open the innings a solid start was never to be taken for granted. 20 overs later all was well when the first wicket fell at 110 with Hardy, who had been playing second fiddle to Bell out first LBW to the Watford Skipper for 41. Bell followed soon after for a very good 69. Although the job was not done it certainly made life easier for those to follow. Oz ‘the experience’ Edwards settled all around him and steered Radlett to a comfortable victory with plenty of balls to spare. Now placed 6th in the league Radlett will entertain the leaders next week full of confidence and looking like a very fine team!
