Match report More disappointment for the Thirds last Saturday in a match where half of the performance was good and half bad.

Eddo won a good toss and bowled. The first quarter of the performance was insipid. Ordinary bowling, dropped catches, and at drinks Mymms were 74 for nothing on a slow pitch with everything to play for. The second half was unrecognisable, with Ashley Tillet taking a superb catch which, as all cricketers know, can transform a game.

Suddenly runs were more difficult to come by, the bowling was more dangerous, and good catches were pouched. Mymms got away closer to tea, courtesy of another dropped catch, but Lee Fortis, Josh Rose, Prabs Armageddon and Ross Carpenter with 3 wickets stuck to the task, and a target of 213 on a drying pitch looked gettable.

The third quarter also went well. Aside from the unnecessary runout of the unfortunate Ashley Tillet, Dom Ingram supplied the stability and Shil Patel some wonderful aggressive batting to take Radlett to 84 for 1 just before drinks at 24 overs, leaving 129 to get at 5 an over with plenty of wickets in hand.

Ingram got himself out just before the drinks interval, and Shil Patel just after for an excellently belligerent 58, but there were two new batters in, and basically, on a decent wicket, we capitulated lamely, except for a powerful 25 from Lee Fortis, to be bowled out 30 runs short.

We will meet stronger teams, and in this division this side have got to take any advantage it can get to stay afloat.

We seriously want to stay in division 4, but that’s unlikely unless there is a stronger mindset. We could and should have won this game, having had the advantage of better conditions, and although we chased the win to the end, giving the opposition 30 points will count against us in September.
