Match report We’ve lost our first three games. Badly. No batsman has exceeded 30, catches have been dropped, and you just think that maybe we’re not good enough.

Today, chasing 224, we are 96-5, and staring another defeat in the face. Should I just give it up and take up golf, after all, I’ve had a good time playing cricket etc.

These negative thoughts did not bedevil the Radlett batters, who, against the odds conjoured a wonderful win that changes our expectations.

Eddo won the toss, and bravely elected to bowl on a flat pitch. We had so much good bowling that Ross Carpenter didn’t even get a bowl. Simon Jackson (24 overs 6-76) and Lee Fortis, opened the bowling and continued, to bowl the first 35 overs. They bowled superbly on a good batting wicket.

We did spill catches, but stuck to the task to restrict, if that is the right word, Bushey to 223-8 from their 53 overs.

This was perhaps 20 runs more than, in our less than confident mood, we needed.

We lost early wickets in our familiar soft fashion, against an unthreatening attack. After 26 overs the score was 96 for 5. Game over. Who would have bet on Radlett being 224 for 6 after 46 overs.

Dom Ingram stayed in and was bowled by a shooter for 65, but Prabs Aramugam was already set, and continued to bat beautifully to finish 49 not out, and was joined By Lee Fortis, who made 47 from 37 balls without giving the hint of a chance.

Well done all. This win restores our faith and confidence. Josh Rose again must be mentioned for taking two very important wickets and getting me some reasonably priced cricket merchandise. The fielding wasn’t great, but was enthusiastic and whole hearted, and Simon Jackson, just in case you don’t know, has the heart of a lion.
