Match report Radlett slithered to their third consecutive defeat with an insipid display of cricket against a competent opposition who gratefully accepted 30 points at half past five last Saturday.

Were it that the team had no talent, experience or guts, there might be a reason for this truly awful start to the season. One’s heart goes out to captain Ian Edwards, who is trying to knit jelly to get a win.

Radlett were inserted on a pitch that did have some variable bounce but was mostly true. The batting succumbed in a way that suggested that there was no spirit, which is palpably not so. The only slight alleviation of the self-inflicted carnage was, for the second consecutive week, a merry cameo from Zahur Gitay, and sensible batting from Prabs Arumugam and the young debutant Ben Charles, who also kept tidily and took a good catch.

100 all out was never going to trouble any side in this division, and so it proved. With the bowlers having no scope to express themselves, the inevitable victory came quickly and embarrassingly for the loss of only two wickets.

It’s not too difficult to see Radlett being relegated this season, and if they continue to play like this, they wouldn’t beat a side three divisions lower.

The talent is certainly there, and I know that Ian Edwards is working hard to set up a tougher and more organised mindset that his side must adopt if they are to put an end to these miserable Saturdays.
