Match report On a glorious day at Cobden Hill, England’s captain Rob Watson won the toss against ROW’s captain Shamit Nathwani. Rob chose to field knowing that the strength of the team could chase down pretty much anything.

He opened up with himself and Jack Arrol. Rob bowled two expensive overs and brought himself off. At the other end, Jack bowled nicely apart from one ball to ROW opener Neel Malde who smashed into Dan Cohen’s chest at short leg!
Replacing Rob was Luca Guerrini, not donning the pads for once, who was simply diabolical! 0-18 says it all! By this time, Jack had Shamit caught behind and Luca had bowled so badly that Neel hit 30. This brought Aaron Comfort and Roshan Baskaran, batting 4 (what?!?!), to the crease. After a slow start, they accelerated nicely against James Mills, Matt Soffair and Dan Cohen to both retire. In the last over they faced, Roshan was almost killed by a Dan Cohen leg-spin beamer (sorry mate!)

This brought Marcus Freeman and Phil Simmons in, so Rob brought Simeon Cohen and Josh Charles into the attack. Simeon’s first over, mostly to Phil, was nice and tight going for 3. Josh’s first over was a really good over. He forced Marcus to hit in the air to mid-off and a regulation catch was dropped by Dan Cohen. Simeon’s next over got a wicket with his last ball getting Marcus bowled. First ball of Josh’s next over, after Dan had said “next catch I get will be caught”, was smacked miles into the air to long-on where Dan was fielding. With everyone present doing the drum-roll type wooooo, the pressure was on but Dan took it nicely to make up for his howler. Not much else came and ROW finished on 118. England knew this was gettable.

England opened up with Matt and Luca while ROW started with Simmo. Phil’s first over went for 10 but he did get Luca Guerrini for what is technically a golden duck as a wide was faced for his ‘first ball’. After Rob and Glenn both went cheaply to Phil, things weren’t looking too good. In came Harry Benjamin who hasn’t batted all season. He scored 18 to put on a 25 partnership with Matt. However, after he went, then Matt retiring, the Charles’ brothers had to both play themselves in. They did this nicely knocking Hershil, Marcus, Maamal, and Dean around. Then, Josh Charles was bowled trying to reverse-sweep Neel’s first ball. This brought Dan Cohen to the crease. James Mills was practically following Daniel out!! However, Dan proved everyone wrong hitting 10 off 5 balls to see the game home with Ben Charles who hit 19*.
