Match report This was the Women's Academy's first ever match in the North London Womens Cricket league and we had no idea what to expect. We had a very young side (only one over 18)but were blessed with a beautiful Sunday morning and very friendly opposiion. We lost the toss and they invited us to bat.Things started badly as our opening batter was out first ball, but Piya and Helen steadied the ship and batted together for 12 overs building a partnership of 53. Three more wickets fell in the next over but Piya stayed at the crease, showing increasing confidence until she was run out in the 19th over and the innings finished with Radlett on 100 for 6.
The top scorer by a long way was extras as the Hampstead women had struggled to bowl straight, but Piya (12) and Helen(7) both showed some real class with some excellent strokes n both sides of the wicket.
After another drinks break ( with drinks carried out by the actress Imelda Staunton!) Hampstead commenced their reply.
They were obviously a much bigger, stronger side than us and could hit the ball a long way, but our bowling was far superior from every player. We conceded only 32 extras ( compared to their 76) and there was some very encouraging fielding. They only lost one wicket but it took them until the 19th over to reach their target.
It may have been a loss on the day but it was a very encouraging start to our season. We will get even better and with some more senior players involved I think we can beat anyone!
