Kings Langley v Radlett CC U15 on Mon 11 Jun 2007 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won By 10 wickets

Match report A team deprived of Actors, Sick Bedders, GCSE'rs, left a Radlett Manager tearing his hair out. A team was cobbled together having made 311 phone calls, sent 2396 emails and got 375 texts. Boy who ever said managing a team was easy.

The team had to make the round the world trip over Junction 20 to the wilds of Kings of the Langley. I arrived to find 11 young men in whites, but alas they were the Under 13's of Kings who were to make the reverse trip to Radlett.

The boys arrived in dribs and drabs, with my mobile directing the skipper, the vice skipper the taxi carrying my son and also hoping that Hardain's Grandpa would work out the best way from St Albans to Kings without navigating the M25.

We arrived and were 10 as Basil Letts had still not recovered from whooping cough, so my decision to call in a 12th man was justified. The opposition manager screamed when his fast bowler arrived on crutches having not advised the manager that he was injured. Oh dear, I am not the only manager who does not receive telephonic correspondences.

What can I say about the game, we lost the toss and bowled. Roshan Baskaran on his return to the side following 18 weeks instructions on how to bowl the doosra, from fellow Tamil Murali, bowled their opener in the first over and then got their number 3 in his second over and snared the number 4 in his 3rd over. Skipper Sahil sensing glory grabbed the Cherry and span his web to snare the obdurate opener. Wickets were tumbling at the bottom end of Kings Park but the top end produced nuffink from Jack or Daniel although the other umpires facial expressions gave away how close some of the deliveries were.

Simon Moses produced the Jonty Rhodes moment to throw out their number 6 and that was it as Sahil gave everyone a bowl who it seemed would not bat.

43 all out could have been better but for some fantastic hitting from the little number 10 Luke Turner (A name to remember) who top scored with a well made 14.

Hardain and Simon matched each other run for run and Hardain hit the winning run to ensure that he scored more than Simon as we strolled to a win in 7.1 overs despite a good spell of bowling from Smart.

An easy win in the end but a professional one and much as it hurts me to say man of the match was Roshan Baskaran.

With the quarters approaching there is competition for places and if we make the semi and final Lloyd Paternott will be available so everyone MUST play their best to try to secure their place.

Congratulations as it is now in our hands.

My thanks to Lynn Cherkas for scoring and Michael Benjamin for relieving me of my umpiring duties in the second innings.
