Langleybury v Radlett CC U15 on Sun 06 May 2007 at 9.30
Match was Tied

Match report What a match, and an unbelievable result.

On a cold Siberian morning the Manager was waken to be told he had 8 players available and with much cajoling and with thanks to Talk Talk and Orange, three replacements weere gleaned at short notice.

Driving up to Langleybury, the view was of a cyclone and tornado it was that cold, I also expected a snow storm.

Arriving at Langleybury, we are 10 with Comfort not arrived as he decided to play Pete Sampras at Tennis first.

Daniel won the toss and inserted Langleybury. A major hold up then accrued as Stuart Pearce, the Langleybury manager realised he did not have a ball and the only ball that could be found was an Under 13 old ball.

First ball of the match was so wide that it needed a cue to reach it as Daniel complained he could not control the swing with such a small ball!!!

Langleybury's innings was built round a patient 25 not out from Highfield and a brutal 40 from County player Matt Lansley and a well paced 29 from McLachlan. The balance was too many wides, something that has crept back into our play. When I consider we won the league 2 years ago by only bowling 18 wides all season this is a worry.

Our bowling was led by Roshan Baskaran with a good 4 overs from 4 overs, a well bowled 4 overs for 16 from Josh Hirschowitz and Aaron Comfort bowled well having been smashed for 2 sixes by Lansley to gain revenge and get his wicket, well caught by Harry Benjamin making his 15a debut behind the sticks.

Good fielding from Tome Blazevski, Josh McFarlane against his old side and Basil Letts (despite a drop) enabled the score to be kept to an OK score of 121. Simon Moses must also take credit for bowling the last 2 overs at one end for 7 runs despite an onslaught from Langleybury.

Our innings started with Hirschowitz and Letts looking to wrap it up fairly quickly and after 4 overs we were 22 but unfortunately Josh perished for 18. We then lost our way in the middle again before Basil with a brutal 40 off 34 balls put us back in control at 70 from 13 overs before he was caught brilliantly by Lansley in the deep.

Enter the match Ben Cherkas who showed us what a good player he is as he once again played himself in and together with Josh McFarlane got the score to 117 with one over to play.

Sub County payer Pearce bowled the last over and Ben unfortunately got run out and it was left to Roshan Baskaran to race through for the last bye off the last ball to tie the game.

It left everyone breathless.

My thanks to:

Tome Blazevski for playing at short notice and fielding really well and not arguing at all with him not batting or bowling. Thank you.
Josh McFarlane for playing with purpose and also fielding well.
Harry Benjamin for getting out of bed at 8.40 and beating us to the ground! Harry kept really well.
Ron Comfort thank you for umpiring.
Lynn Cherkas who watched the match with her younger sister, Dragi for watching, Anju for braving the cold.

A great game played in great spirit between two well matched sides.

Man of the match Basil Letts just pipping Ben Cherkas
