Match report Radlett won this pulsating match in the last over.Finals day was rained off and our semi final opponents decided on the toss of a coin.Shenley Village again and they had home advantage.
We lost the toss and were put in with the backing of about 40-50 parents and grandparents. The tension was palpable as SV's county bowler started proceedings.Will struck a boundary through the covers fourth ball but the bowling tightened up as he and Jaimin battled away to give the side a platform.The runs were beginning to clock up,notably through a fine lofted drive from Jaimin but it wasn't easy.Will smashed SV's county U12 player Thurston's leg spin for 2 successive fours to take the score to 56-0 before he was stumped next ball for 22.There were 7 and a half overs left and Joe 14,supported Jaimin 22 as we edged towards 3 figures.Both holed out bringing Giles to the crease and he smashed 2 boundaries in the last over to get us to a defendable 99.
SV opened with county players Thurston and Balogun, neither of whom played in the opening fixture, with Thurston fresh from a county hundred the day before. SV were confident but they hadn't reckoned with Hazza. Disppointed to get out for 1,he responded in the best possible way castling Balogun in the first over.Thurston looked menacing smashing a superb back foot drive for 4,but he tried a wild drive in the 5th over and nicked off to Jake off Harry,now bowling with real pace.At the crease now were Patel and Haftel who both made 20 plus against us in May.Simeon's moon ball didn't appear quite as threatening against these 2 and the score moved to 43.Will had Patel caught of a no ball then just when we thought we would regret that,he played an identical shot in his next over and Harry took a great catch at point.Haftel then thought it was time to go big against Simeon's SLA and was bowled. The SV innings now stalled with 2 run outs and another Harry catch of Joe reducing them to 56-7 in the 13 th over.
SV seemed out of it but slowly they started to claw their way back.Over 17 went for 8 and over 18 for 10 despite Joseph bowling their number 9. Extras and sloppy fielding were costing us and when a boundary snuck under a foot off the last ball of the 19th over SV needed 9 to win. Udeepa came charging in and dug one in short.The batsman went hard at it and got a steepling top edge.For one horrible moment it looked like a 6.Then Giles cam scurrying into view from square leg took a brilliant running catch.Udeepa kept it fast and straight to secure a deserved win and a Final against Letchworth.
Well played boys- they all held their nerve under the most severe pressure. In the end some brilliant catches swung it our way.That and Harry brilliantly nipping out their openers.No point singling anyone out from such a good team effort but special mention to Joel and Rikhil who did not bat or bowl but gave everything for the team.
