Radlett CC U11 v Tring Park on Tue 17 Jul 2007 at 6pm
Radlett CC Won 5 wickets
Match report
Radlett squeezed home in a tight game when we needed all our strength in depth to see off a determined Tring side.
One player down at the outset, unexpectedly, we were fortunate to have Ben Wright(8) who stood in well.
Will opened the bowling with Udeepa and both took wickets,Will to a good caught and bowled and Meeps with a ball that was just too quick. Will was out of sorts though conceding 4 boundaries through third man as Tring moved to a threatening 45-2 off 8.Joe Lewis then felt unwell meaning that Freddie Wright(7) had to take the field. It was not looking good, although to be fair ,the mini brigade fielded well and did the team proud.
Wobbler Silva chipped in with 2 wickets and suddenly Tring's weak lower order was exposed.Joe got into the groove and took 2 wickets, one to a fine catch by Jaimin Patel. It was left to Simeon ,like a fox in the hen coop to mop up the tail, snaring 3 with flight, guile and the slowest slower ball ever seen.
All out for 70,despite concerns about the batting surely we had enough?
Tring's opening bowlers were decent and Jaimin perished in the second over.Joe then fell LBW in the 4th over to the sort of decision I was quite glad our umpire gave.11-2. Their best bowler was into his 4th and last over when he nipped a slower ball between Will's bat and pad.Now we were rocking-20-3.
Joseph Silva flicked a beautiful 6 over midwicket but perished trying to repeat the dose, out for 11. 34-4. We had never found ourselves in this sort of a mess before so it was gratfying to see the response from Rikhil and Giles who gutsed it out for 29 crucial runs.Rikhil held an end up with watchful defence whilst Giles hit some mighty blows, one striking an unfortunate fielder who had to be carried off.Rikhil was run out for 7 with the score on 63 and the hard work done.Note to boys-runs are called from the middle not the spectators! Simeon, despite running out Rikhil with his boundary calling, ran well himself and played some lovely shots on the ground, including a thumping pull for 4 to win the game.
Simeon and Giles, who finished on 18 not out were joint men of the match.
Well played boys but we need to play better to get further on Sunday. With luck that wobbly performance will have cleared out any complacency.
