Radlett CC Won
Match report
Sunday Sept 9th Harpenden Chess valley 2 59 all out lost to Radlett 2 (60-1) by 9 wickets
Harpenden were good enough to start this match early to allow us to hopefully watch the county cup final at Shenley later in the day.
Harpenden won the toss & chose to bat. Immediately Rob Watson found the ball swinging prodigiously & bowled a couple of wides in his first over. Phil Simmons was also having trouble controlling his line. In Rob’s 2nd over he bowled the opener & Phil followed with 2 more bowled in his next over leaving Harpenden reeling at 6-3 after 4 overs. Watson took wickets number 4 &5 with the score on 16 & for a while it was just the wides scoring.
Sahil Shah took a wicket in his first over & there followed a little fight back with his second over going for 11 runs. Matt Johnson also had trouble controlling the swing & Hasit Mehta was introduced from his end. Hasit took one wicket, Kailash Morjaria taking a sharp low catch at cover, & Sahil completed a 4 wicket haul in the 22nd over leaving Harpenden 59 all out. Of those runs, 21 were wides & 2 no balls. Luca Guerrini, once again, showed his class behind the stumps, nothing getting past him at all.
A target of 60 runs in 45 overs should not be daunting but Harpenden’s Joe Peck was very fast & dangerous in his opening spell. Daniel Cohen was opening the batting & handled the bowling admirably, remaining unbeaten on 14, including one glorious cover drive. Neel Malde recovered from a couple of blows to score briskly for his 26. Having seen off the opening bowlers it was left to Matt Soffair to hit the winning runs with a couple of imperious drives.
As the match concluded, team mascot Dave Gold pitched up having seen none of the match at all but he still got in on the team photos & celebrations later on. Good to have you back, Mark.
This team, in their first season, have won all their matches, some comprehensively & have won this league. It has been a great idea by Piero to keep the older youngsters at the club & thanks to Gary Watson for his skippering. Some players have definitely improved from this experience & had loads of fun in the process.
So we were at Shenley by 2.30 to see the firsts defeat Knebworth fairly comprehensively too. A pretty good weekend at Radlett Cricket Club.
