Welwyn Garden City v Radlett CC Sunday III on Sun 29 Jul 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won By 4 wickets
Match report
This was a game that lasted a lot longer than it should have done as Radlett travelled to their near neighbours Welwyn Garden City. With normal manager Bernie Soffair entertaining his aunt for a garden party, the team were under the stewardship of Don Pierro of Edgware. For fear of being shot by the Don, the team assembled at the correct time.
The team captained by Ronnie "McDonald" Comfort,. contained one other adult Shabbir, who looks younger than any other member of the side, 1 17 year old John Mansell, 2 16 year olds and the rest from the under 15s. This bodes well for the future of Radlett cricket.
Captain Ronaldo asked Welwyn to bat and decided to give as many of his bowlers a bowl as possible, so 9 bowlers were used, with Josh McFarlane missing out. Shabbir bowled a lively spell without luck, John Mansell bowled a lively spell for one wickert and Steroid Paternott bowled quickly to take 2 wickets in his four overs, but Yasir Sayed bowled really well for his 6 overs and took 2 wickets. The less said about our successful under 15 captain's bowling the better. Welwyn could not really get going and were 48 for 5 off 17 overs but got back in the game with a good 23 from Sumpter and a very good 34 from Under 14 player Chalker who looked a very useful prospect. Chalker was out to a fabulous piece of stumping from Luca off Sahil as the innings subsided to 135 all out in the 33rd over. This nearly saved Luca from the TFC award.
An easy win was forecast and in the end it was comfortable but!!!!!
Radlett lost Yasir to a silly shot and was well caught by bowler Nolan. Sahil and Josh McFarlane played well until Josh was adjudged LBW by Ronald McComfort and then Sahil was shot out with an alleged poor decision by Ronnie "Can't keep me out of the game" Comfort!!! Aaron and Lloyd played sensible cricket mixing solid defence with the odd shot and ensuring wickets did not go down but we reckoned without the large figure of Sumpter who took a further 2 in 2 including Luca joining the Primary club. At this stage we were teetering at 52 for 5 with Shabbir joining The Steroid. Lloyd is fast collecting nicknames nearly as fast as Silla sups pints!!!
Lloyd and Shabbir decided to see off Sumpter who finished with good but flattering figures of 4-17 which left us at 55 for 5 at the half way mark and drinks. Lloyd and Shabbir then took the attack to the change bowlers and looked as if they were going to see it through until Shabbir hoiked and was caught behind off a skyer by Stansfield who had a competent game behind the stumps.
Neal Malde joined Lloyd (by this time called CD – LP’s are outdated) and immediately the two off them got busy pushing singles, running hard twos and hitting the odd four. Lloyd finished it off with a lovely 4 off Moscrop who looks a very good bowler who finished his spell with 0 - 22 in 7.1. He is not quick but used the old adage of you miss I hit and forced the players to bat straight. Lloyd ended with a very good, mature and well paced 44 not out and Neal 19 not out in 22 balls.
Captain Ronaldo McComfort was pleased with the overall contribution from his side and must be congratulated for teaching Urdu to the opposition supporters.
A very good match against decent opposition who had the noisiest and loudest support from 2 13 years old who could not play, due to their county coach banning them from playing as they are off on a weeks cricket tour.
Moment of the match - Seeing young 10 years old Shay Emerton bowl a fabulous over to Lloyd and Neal and forcing them to play at every ball. The last time I saw Shay, he got 4 wickets in 4 balls for Shenley Colts under 10's against our Under 10's. Make a note of this name, as I predict big things for this young man.
TFC award - Daniel Cohen and Luca Guerrini
Man of the match - Lloyd Paternott
