Radlett CC Sunday III v Ickleford on Sun 10 Jun 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Match was Abandoned
Match report
Sun June 10 Radlett 224-6 v Ickleford. Match abandoned.
This was our 5th development match for this season. So far we have had 2 matches abandoned due to rain & have contrived to end up with 12 players for the other 2. We were hopeful for an incident-free match this time, with the weather set fair but it was not to be & the match was not completed.
Radlett won the toss & Captain Gary Watson chose to bat. Ashley Tillett was not around -there were rumours he had fallen off a ladder or been selected for the firsts.-it later transpired it was the latter. So this time we had 10 players but Tony Cohen was on hand to supply Daniel & Simeon Cohen & make up the 11. In our 6 a side match later Simeon looks a useful aggressive batter for the future.
At last Sahil Shah was able to play for us & he opened the batting with Luca Guerrini. The opening pair was looking comfortable after 10 overs, scoring at 5 runs an over. Then the umpire mentioned to Luca how well he was striking the ball & next ball he was bowled for 25 by a straight one. Sahil was caught off a leading edge 2 balls later & we were 52-2. Rob Watson & Glenn Rawlings then put on a reasonable partnership before Glenn (7) was caught at mid wicket.
In came Phil Simmons, unusually high up the order at no 5 to hopefully connect with a few balls. Ickleford now changed to 2 spin bowlers who gave the ball a lot of air & they were proving difficult to get away. Rob was caught at point for13 & Phil was joined by Mark Gray. Both Mark & Phil played & missed with regularity but were hitting at least one 4 per over. They managed to put on a 115 run partnership, Mark retiring on 54 & Phil scoring his maiden 50 for Radlett with 59. Radlett finished on 224-6 & were in the driving seat. We were looking forward to bowling with our strong bowling attack. John Mansell was returning for his first match of the season, we had the pace of Matt Johnson, Rob Watson & Phil Simmons, & Daniel’s reliability.
However we then discovered that the Ickleford team had had their valuables stolen from their changing room during our innings & the match was subsequently abandoned.
A really upsetting end to the match – a lovely day had been spoilt by this despicable theft.
