Reed v Radlett CC Sunday III on Sun 20 May 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won
Match report
The mustang is back and better than ever. Despite the absence of Sahil Shah, super outfielder (yes the long barrier) and top order stalwart Tej ‘Neel’ Malde. Bernie pulled up in a pristine vehicle that demanded the highest amount of respect (Volvo G reg), still carrying a bit of holiday weight (easy on the mince pies Bern). Bernie’s ingenious shortcut helped us to arrive at Reed at ten to 2 (start at 1:30, chin up!).
Golden Balls (aka Mark Silva) lost the toss and we were put into bat on a road. We managed to motor along to 244. Kailash and Matt started well, with Kailash ‘Shamoo/ Big Willy/Moby Dick’ (more leaves than Epping Forest) impressing the spectators with his 14 off ten overs, Matt got 101 (TFC). Ben Weinberg, in his academy debut played excellently for 51 retired, with many a cut to fine leg (MORNING!). Luca ‘I’ve never used my top hand in my life’ ‘asbo’ Guerrini hit a brisk 22. It can only be described as a marvellous display by the team, but Dave Gold put the icing on the cake with 2 consecutive sixes, which demoralised the opening bowler (steady on Dave).
In reply, there were nine drop catches, the highlight of which was Matt trying to catch their best batsmen out with his nose, and Dave Gold throwing his zimmerframe out the window in a valiant attempt, however in the process dislocating his left hip. We won comfortably (yes Ronnie and Arun!) thanks to strong bowling performances, with Kieran in his first game for a year taking 3 wickets, Ben Cherkas, in his academy debut bowling an excellent and unlucky spell, and Phil Simmons bowled two masterclass spells of slow-medium bowling. We won emphatically by 38 runs and trundled home, with Vijay making best use of the new Sat Nav as we conducted 3 u-turns in the middle of a busy A – road.
