Radlett CC 5th XI v Hertingfordbury 11 on Sat 23 Jun 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Match was Abandoned due to rain

Match report Week 8 saw the 5th team for a 2nd consecutive week at Queens that offers many conundrums - with rain being the major thorn for completion of events. This was unfortunate as Radlett were in total control of this match from the onset.
Hertingfordbury wan the toss and elected to field and so Radlett took first stake at the batting.

Tony Peck and Mike Dexter opened proceedings. The bowling was consistent and fairly average as the good bowlers gave 3 per over and the others gave 5 per over.

Tony found good form even hitting a cumbersome straight 6 but then was found out playing the big shot again for 13. Peter Warne fresh from university life joined the 5th XI adventure and with Mike took the score to 46 after 16 overs when Mike fell playing an extraordinary shot we saw him trample the stumps with bat and he fell for 11. 2 wickets down must have raised hopes for the opponents. But the determined Andie Saunders was on par to prove all of this wrong. Peter had found the perfect partner in Andie and they constructed the 2nd highest partnership this season but the most exciting so far. Peter cleared the ring of fielders with ease, played brutal cuts and cover drives. The maturity of play showed and shone in this innings where he dominated bowling with 7 boundaries. While Andie picked the bad balls after a slow start and he too cut very well to both square and cover areas. Both batsmen made heavy impact on the game and all areas were unsafe as Peter had pushed 4 fielders to the boundary rope. Unfortunately Peter was given lbw to a high ball and it seemed he had a lot more left to accumulate in this outing ending for 63. Andie joined by Simon Watman soon departed for a well earned 32 at 132 for 4 the hard work had been done and now serious consolidation for batting points was required. The remaining 7 batsman chipped in and Keerthi hit a scintillating 21 when he ran out of gas. The rest contributed very modestly and the total reached 183 with the run rate mostly at 3 and pushing for 4 towards the end. The total was competitive and imposing for this ground and it was doubtful that it could be chased in these conditions.

Vikram and John Mansell opened the bowling in conditions which were in stark contrast to the sunny spell we had while batting.

The 8 overs bowled in total were tight and reaped just 27 runs with 2 maidens in all. Also to add to the drama, Paul Rich dropped a catch at deep gully which was regulation and by this time hopes were even more dampened with showers thunder and lightening.

The weather was a winner and if there was anything to be taken from the match was an in form Peter Warne to earn man of the match.

The match was abandoned at 6pm when there was no hope of further play pitch inspections had been carried out but the downpour was sustained.

Radlett are still poised at bottom of the table which spells disaster if things don’t improve drastically.
