Hitchin 11 v Radlett CC 4th XI on Sat 04 Aug 2007 at 1.30 p.m.

Match report
London medical student Prabhu Arumugam enjoyed a sensational day for Radlett IV, though he could not prevent his team losing by two wickets to fellow Division Six strugglers Hitchin II.
A very good see-saw match in lovely sunshine ended in a fourth defeat in five games after Arumugam, in his first club game of the season, had hit 67, taken five wickets with his off-spin and held two catches. The rest of the side had fill-in parts.
On a mottled Hitchin pitch of varying bounce Radlett did well to finish with 184 all out. The disappointment of missing two bonus points by one run would be tempered by the fact the score had slipped to 50 for five before Arumugam began to cut loose.
Hitchin in reply slipped to 109 for seven, but an eighth-wicket stand of 62 turned the game round completely without Radlett doing much wrong. A likely victory was snatched away by some good cricket.
Radlett had eight team changes from the previous week – it’s a surprise the side functions at all sometimes – and Jamie Wells decided to bat after claiming Radlett’s second won toss of the summer. Losing three wickets in five balls shattered the upper order and it could have been worse. ‘Prabs’ himself was let off with a dolly return catch when he completely miscued a full toss before he had scored. Fallible Hitchin catching was a keynote of the Radlett innings.
.Prabs and Hemal Malde put on 60 for the sixth wickets, with Malde showing a cool head and useful off-side strokes, and another 47 were added with Chris Brown before Prabs holed out at long-on after innings full of flowing drives and clever placement.
With the ball Arumugam destroyed the Hitchin middle order, clean bowling three and twice holding return catches – one a screamer. Neil Lederman and Brown put in steady opening spell and Matt Johnson, 15, showed considerable potential with his bowling, a credit to the new Hertswood School coaching scheme, featuring Radlett’s own Gareth Berg.
In the end Radlett did not do enough, but it was an overall performance to be proud of.
