Match report ALL-ROUNDER Chandana Meepagama saved Radlett IV from a humiliating afternoon against Old Camdenians at Mill Hill in Division Six, and torrential rain forced abandonement, giving Matt Bell’s team 10 points that had seemed unlikely on the run of play. This was their fifth away game in their six matches this season.

Meepagama, with two driven sixes and four fours, helped Radlett from 39 for five to 81 for six, assisted by a determined Tony Johnson, before another collapse left the side 87 all out. Any hope of a fightback with the ball evaporated when Radlett started bowling in light rain. Camdenians took full advantage to rush their score to 30 for one in six overs before a downpour ended the game. Meepagama claimed the wicket to fall in a hopeless cause.

If Meepagama,top-scoring with 30, Johnson and Luca Guerrini had not extended Radlett’s ran-interrupted innings to 40 overs, the game would have been finished before the final storm. Bell was caught off the day’s fourth ball, a full toss driven to mid-on, and Charlie Randall was run out next over by his new partner Nick Tune. When Jamie Wells offered a leading edge to extra cover and Tune was bowled off his pads, Radlett had stumbled to eight for four in eight overs.

In view of heavy rain during the week, the pitch played surprisingly well, and there was no real excuse for another appalling Radlett batting display. It was not a good day for Mick Engwell, a Borehamwood PE teacher to be making his debut. Another blow to the batting came at training last Tuesday when Hanif Karachiwalla tore a hamstring and could be out for two months.
