Match report RadlettIV slipped to their third defeat in four games in a hard-fought contest between two well matched teams at Boxmoor. Chandana Meepagama enjoyed an outstanding all-round game -- supporting his vociferous claims to all-rounder status -- by taking four wickets and top-scoring as one of the few batsmen to master the conditions.
Toby Sutherland made a welcome return to help 'Meeps' improve on Radlett's 58 for five and make a game of chasing a gettable target. The fourths specialise in batting collapses, this time losing four wickets for seven runs after the loss of opener Matt Bell, whose 16 had included a pulled six.
The slow pitch helped seam bowlers who hit the seam, and Bell received a ball that jagged back trhough the left-hander's gate, and no one looked at ease until Meeps went on his usual unorthodox assault. He put on 43 priceless runs for the sixth wicket and just when Radlett seemed to have repaired the damage Meeps hit a full toss straight back to the first ball from an off-spinner when the score was 101. The end followed quite quickly, though Sutherland and George Copley each struck a defiant six.
Boxmoor decided to bat first and scored slowly without losing wickets.After 26 overs they were 49 for three, but managed to raise the rate and bat through 53 overs. Hanif Karachiwalla, on his debut from Harrow Town, held three catches -- including a running effort from mid-off to deep mid-on, where the fielder posted there, Copley, was wondering whether to move a few yards to catch it himself. Chris Brown bowled very well without luck in his first game of the season. This was a disappointing, but not abject, defeat against a similarly struggling side. The batting performance on the day was mediocre.
