Radlett CC 2nd XI v Preston on Sat 04 Aug 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won 45 runs

Match report On a blisteringly hot "Finally Summers Hers" day Radlett played Preston and won by 45 runs to keep up their late promotion run.

Skipper Khan, tossed correctly and inserted his team to allow Preston to melt under the "bright yellow object in the blue sky".

Openers Tillett and Randall started slowly and carefully, with Tillett not looking his usual assured self, until Ashley fell at 33-1 bowled by Waters. A good stand between the Simons, Randall and Gray pushed Radlett along nicely, with Silla looking extremely good and easy at the crease, when Silla was run out unfortunately for a good looking 25.

Jim Chaudry came in and with Randall took the score steadily up as Simon went to his 50 but Jim fell for 26 trying to force the pace. This brought in Nick Fielded who started at a run a ball and Simon Randall now played some expansive shots until he was out bowled for a well made 79 in 120 balls. Enter Ahmed Nawab, to the fray and Ahmed and Gunner put on 40 in 5 overs until Nick was adjudges run out for a well made 35. Skipper Amjad Khan then promoted Heath "The Riddler" Paynter and with his second ball he launched Samawareera into Middlesex for a huge 6. Ahmed then smashed 2 fours in the 52nd over and Khan called the team in at the end of the 52nd over.

All the players enjoyed a lovely tea, but the sun was still beating down and skipper Amjad decided to use the old ball and opened up with spinners Chaudry and Nawab. Ahmed managed to snare a wicket in his 1st over and Jim a wicket inhis second to leave Preston 8-2.

Preston could have shut up shop but did not and went for it and a good partnership followed between Ender and Fleckney until Fleckney fell for 27, snared by Nawab. Preston played positively again and a further 50 run partnership followed , forcing Amjad to turn to Silla and asking him to bowl his little used off spinners and with his first ball Samawaweera hit a full toss into the grateful hands of Ashley Tillett at mid on. When the obdurate Fleckney fell for 27 Skipper Khan called for the new ball and allowed Paynter and Watson 2 overs each before deciding that the shine was off and the new ball would spin harder so back came Gray and Chaudry to turn the screws on a Preston run chase which was positive but kept falling behind the required rate.

Silla, according to skipper Khan was turning it like Murali and kept getting wickets, but still Preston did not give up and play for the draw. Finally Simon Randall held the catch that gave Silla his 5th wicket and Radlett a win in the 44th over.

Skipper Khan, praised Simon Gray for his innings and his bowling and Simon Randall for anchoring the innings, but also praised Ahmed for a good all round performance. However his finest praise was reserved for Preston for playing positive cricket and keeping the game alive.

Man of the match - Simon Gray.
