Radlett CC 2nd XI v Totteridge on Sat 21 Jul 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Match was Abandoned
Match report
Just 34 overs were possible before rain caused Radlett’s match against third-from-bottom Totteridge to be abandoned.
Confident of being able to force a third consecutive victory, skipper Khan inserted Totteridge on a dry wicket. With opening bowler Simon Jackson delayed, Graham Dill partnered Heath Paynter with the new ball, the former bowling four tidy overs for just five runs.
Totteridge had moved to 33 off 9 overs when heavy rain brought the first interruption of play, reducing the match by 12 overs. Paynter then struck during the first over after the resumption, cutting one back sharply to clean bowl opener Suteria for 10. Three overs later, Jackson induced his faster-scoring partner to loft a steepling drive to wide mid-off, where Simon Randell took an excellent catch, as cover fielder Nick Hampton charged into him.
Totteridge’s third-wicket pair batted aggressively at four-an-over, taking the score to 84 in the 23rd over, before keeper Warne held on to a good catch as the slow-scoring Ali edged a wild swing off Paynter. Skipper Durrani passed 50, making good use of his main shot – a heave to deep mid-wicket – including two sixes off spinner Ahmed Nawab, until the latter exacted revenge, inducing a catch to Nick Fielden at mid-off.
Twelve runs later, Jim Chaudry reduced Totteridge to 139-5 and Radlett felt they were in a strong position, as rain fell again and the players took an early tea with the score on 147. Although the deluge abated in time for the match to restart under League rules, the square was deemed unfit for further play. Radlett have now had five of their twelve matches abandoned this season, making it unlikely that they will be able to turn their recent good form into a realistic push for promotion.
