Radlett CC 2nd XI v Eversholt on Sat 07 Jul 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won By 8 Wickets
Match report
Radlett 2s cruised to an easy victory over bottom-placed Eversholt at Cobden Hill, the 30 points gained taking them to 8th in the table.
Skipper Amjad Khan inserted Eversholt on a dry wicket and gained immediate reward, with Rob Watson inducing opener Kerr to lob a simple catch to mid-on with his third ball. Bowling his best spell of the season so far, Watson then removed the other opener in his third over with a superb delivery that swung back through the gate to surgically remove the off-stump.
The ever-steady Heath Paynter then reduced Eversholt to 19-3, during a period in which he bowled five consecutive maidens. With Watson (2-12) only allowed to bowl six-over spells due to his age, Ollie Robertson (1 for 36 off 9 overs) took over and soon had Eversholt in further trouble, aided by keeper Colin Warne’s swift stumping.
Eversholt’s fifth wicket pair looked to be re-building, taking the score to 70, before spinner Ahmed Nawab’s second ball induced a thick-edge from the dangerous-looking Muzawazi for Nick Fielden to take a fine catch at point.
The 6th wicket pair took advantage of some wayward deliveries from Nawab and took the score to 112, before the spinner suddenly wrought havoc with four wickets for just one run off thirteen deliveries, leaving the opposition on 113-9. Spin-twin Chaudry was applying pressure at the other end, conceding just 9 runs from 8 overs, and should have had his reward when the normally reliable Robertson spilled a straight-forward chance at mid-wicket. The miss allowed Eversholt’s last wicket pair to extend the innings to reach 139 in 45 overs, before Nawab induced an edge to give keeper Warne his third victim. Nawab finished with a season’s best 6-46 off 11.3 overs.
Radlett had their strongest batting line-up of the season and the quality opening pair of Nick Fielden and Rob Smith duly gave Radlett their best start so far, adding 71 stylish runs in just 14 overs, before Smith casually hit one straight to mid-off. Fielden looked set for a chanceless 50, before getting a bottom-edge to the keeper on 44, with the score on 93. Jim Chaudry and Simon Gray continued serenely on, taking just 7 overs to add 49 runs and complete the job.
