Tring Park v Radlett CC 1st XI on Sun 29 Apr 2007 at 1.00 p.m.
Radlett CC Won By 102 runs

Match report A fine all round display from Radlett eased their passage into Round 2 of the ECB Cockspur Cup, as Tring Park were comprehensively outplayed in each facet of the game. Radlett captain Dan Chippeck won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like a good pitch, and his opening pair of Graham Dill and Matt Evans took full advantage as they stacked up an opening stand of 180. Showing their experience, both players took their time to assess conditions but did not panic when only 8 runs came from the opening 5 overs, and thereafter Dill especially took command unleashing a flurry of attacking strokes including his trademark square drive. Evans dug in to play the anchor role whilst Dill continued to assault the attack making batting look easy despite the sluggish nature of the pitch. He continued to find the boundary to all parts of the ground to complete his first century of the season in stylish fashion.

When he was finally dismissed, his run a ball 105 had put Radlett in a commanding position. That the last 10 overs of the innings yielded just 59 runs for the loss of 5 further wickets was testimony to Dill's outstanding performance. Evans was one of those to fall near the death of the innings for a patient and well constructed 78, and 239 was clearly a challenging total to chase in the 45 overs allotted.

It was a target that Tring Park never really threatened, as Gareth Berg struck early in a fiery opening spell during which he hurried the batsmen and beat both sides of the bat, and finally got due reward as he uprooted Bush's middle stump. Stuart Browne used the conditions effectively to pick up 2-36 as he bowled his 9 over allocation straight through, and with 3 wickets falling early Tring were in early trouble. Adam Pusey struck the ball cleanly for an aggressive 61 but Rob Crocker's off spin accounted for him, smartly snared down the leg side by veteran keeper David Hanson. Crocker bagged 3-26 to wrap things up as Tring subsided to 137 all out. Graham Dill was named Man of the Match for his brilliant 105 and bowling figures of 1-23.

Radlett skipper Dan Chippeck commented:" To win our first competitive match of the season by 100 plus runs was encouraging and sets the tone nicely for the season. We are still in the early stages of building the foundations for the season and performances like this can only help build confidence. It was gratifying to see the opening pair bat in such determined and ruthless fashion and set the standards for the upcoming challenges."
