Radlett CC 1st XI v Reading on Sat 16 Aug 2003 at
Radlett CC Lost 7 wickets

Match report With one eye clearly on the following days Evening Standard Semi Final it was perhaps unsurprising that Radlett produced one of their poorest league performances of the season.

Having been inserted on a good batting wicket it was disappointing that only one of the top 5 made any significant runs. Nick Fielden’s 34 was patiently put together but his dismissal shortly before lunch left Radlett in real trouble at 100 for 5.

However Haydn Smith & Matt Evans, two players unavailable for the following days clash proved that batting was not that difficult with a partnership of 151 which was only broken on the last ball of the innings when Evans was caught by Mordt for well constructed 81. Smith finished unbeaten on 73.

The total should have been easily defendable but without Oz Edwards the bowling was extremely poor with the exception of Stuart Browne who bowled unchanged for 26 overs. With several catches being dropped and the general ground fielding mediocre it was no surprise that Reading reached their target with 11 balls remaining.

The defeat sent Radlett to 6th in the table and still requiring 30 points from the 3 remaining games in order to ensure that they retain their Premiership status.
