Radlett CC 2nd XI v Sawbridgeworth II on Sat 12 Aug 2006 at 13:00
Radlett CC Won 9 wickets

Match report On a grey, blustery day, Radlett blew away Sawbridgeworth with a display of top-quality fielding, taking seven good catches and a direct-hit run out to dismiss them for just 133 on an excellent wicket. Victory was achieved in just 22 overs, as an unbroken partnership of 122 between Dave Robinson (37*) and Muhammad Akoojee (71*) saw Radlett ease home for the loss of just one wicket.

Sawbridgeworth started off at speed, making the most of the opening loose deliveries before young Rob Watson induced a sharp catch to Mike Yeabsley at second slip with the score on 14. He repeated the feat in his next over, Heath Paynter taking a good catch at third slip. Sawbo’s 3rd wicket pair then contrived to build the largest partnership of the innings, adding 43 runs in 11 overs, until a superb pick-up and throw in the covers by Paynter ran out opener Levy for 32.

With first change bowler Jim Lewis bowling a stream of no-balls as he struggled with his run up into the gale, skipper Amjad Khan introduced off-spinner Robbie Crocker, who produced his most controlled spell of the season. With good flight and decent turn, Crocker kept the Sawbo betters under constant pressure. A superb low catch at mid-wicket by Yeabsley brought Crocker his first victim, top-scorer Bowler for 38. Further catches by Khan and Chaudry, plus an excellent delivery that turned through the gate to wrap up the innings, brought Crocker just reward and figures of 4-27 of 13.4 overs.

At the other end, the returning Robbie Watson dismissed Sawbo’s stylish-looking Read with a full toss that saw Khan take a fine lofted catch. Then Oz Edwards, rolling back the years with some fine, seaming deliveries at good, wind-assisted pace, ensured there was no relief for the Sawbo middle and lower order. A fine low caught and bowled and a delivery that had no 9 Ford both lbw and caught behind gave Edwards excellent figures of 2-13 off nine testing overs.

Jim Chaudry clearly had an early finish in mind as he tucked into the Sawbo openers, but in the fifth over he picked out the man at deep gully to depart for 15. The pace was maintained by no3 Muhammad Akoojee, who raced into the thirties, where he was dropped behind. Such a mistake is normally an expensive one and Muhammad moved to a 40-ball fifty and on towards 71 not out off 58 deliveries. The ever-reliable Dave Robinson sensed an opportunity to improve his season's average, now standing at 82, and provided excellent support in scoring a stylish 37 not out.

Another 30 points in the bag, but Radlett now have to play three of the four teams in the chasing pack, so this fine performance wil provide an excellent spring-board for the championship run-in.
