Radlett CC 1st XI v Brondesbury on Sun 18 Jun 2006 at 13:00
Radlett CC Lost 110 runs

Match report Radlett were outclassed in this 45 overs a side knock-out match, Middlesex Premier league Powerhouse Brondesbury enjoying their visit to Cobden Hill with a commanding all round performance and a comfortable victory, achieved in a style that suggests they could go all the way in the ECB Cockspur Cup this season. Visiting skipper Ben Claypole won the toss and elected to take
first strike on a pitch that looked full of runs, and so it proved as the skipper himself went in first and hit a quickfire 34 climbing into
anything loose by going over the top of the infield especially over the legside. Radlett's leading bowler Stuart Browne picked up Claypole to a smart catch at cover by Brenden Hutchings, and in the following over the same fielder swooped in magnificent style to throw down the stumps with a direct hit which seemingly had Brondesbury's other opener, the experienced Mark Lowery, caught at least a yard short of his ground. However, and to general dismay amongst the fielders, the umpire inexplicably ruled in the batsmans favour, and he went on to take full advantage of this generous dose of good fortune to anchor the innings with a well crafted and discplined 90 not out. He was joined by Jason Molins, who after being dropped on 0, went on to take the attack to all bowlers with some fine shots to all parts. Only Browne who took 1-27 off his 9 overs and Haydn Smith with 36 conceded off his 9 overs were spared severe punishment as the ball raced along the lightening fast outfield to the boundary with regularity, and the liberal supply of bad balls were ruthlessly dealt with. Matt Evans picked up Molins wicket, but that allowed Brett Penny to come to the crease and he teed off in fine style with some impressive straight hitting to finish with a rapid 62 not out, Radlett's agony finally ending with a massive 289 needed for victory.

The unlikely quest began well but both openers Nick Fielden (20) and Haydn Smith (16) got out when well set, and Graham Dill was yorked to leave Radlett in deep trouble. Robert Smith unleashed some superb drives and pulls but edged behind for 36, and thereafter only Matt Evans got going as wickets fell regularly, Evans finally being the last man out for a superb 70.

Radlett skipper Dan Chippeck afterwards paid tribute to Brondesbury :" They are an outstanding club cricket outfit , very professional, well organised, disciplined and with a streak of ruthlessness, all qualities required to win these cup competitions. We were totally out gunned on the day but it was a good chance for our younger guys to see the standards that are out there and to which we should be aspiring in the future. Its no surprise to see Brondesbury in the top 2 of their premier league and I
expect them to have a very successful season"
