Old Camdenians III v Radlett CC 5th XI on Sat 17 Jun 2006 at 13:30
Radlett CC Lost 3 wickets
Match report
Radlett faced the new look Old Camdenians who have yet to lose a match at their home ground. After winning the toss their skipper delayed his decision as he inspected the pitch before announcing what to do. A somewhat unusual delay was followed by his decision to field on a green top and hot day.
Opening pair Vikram and Eddie started reasonably. Vikram brought a flurry of 3 boundaries but was bowled by a good line ball. Eddie followed and this brought Nick Robinson and Oliver Jackson who put on 20 and were together for 10 overs. Steady defence and clean hitting was their story. Soon Toby Sutherland entered to save our middle order by constructing a well carved 51 and a partnership of 66 with George Copley who was ready to let the long handle loose. Shabbir also supported Toby well to hit 23. Keerthi who hadn’t batted for over 20 years showed all the shots in the book without connecting bat to ball which was a sight. Radlett folded to a respectable total of 151 at least 40 runs short of a winning score.
Radlett opened their bowling with Vikram and George. Vikram after a few overs was looking out of rythmn and had his most uneconomical spell for a long time to be replaced by Shabbir. George was quick and ready to let a few go accurately he surprised the batsmen who couldn’t react quickly enough. Shabbir was economical with swing and zip creating some chances and picking up 3 wickets. Michael Williams soon followed who was deadly accurate and managed to pin the batsman. He got his wicket when he exposed the gate to clean bowl. More variety with Toby bowling his medium pacers brought 2 wickets both caught. Keerthi also bowled a tight line frustrating batsmen with his deviation in the air comprising the length ball. They tumbled from 89 for 1 to 144 for 6 and the last bowler Oliver Jackson bowled very well for his age to clean up with his first senior wicket scalp. Bowling display was very good with some strong support in the field with Angus who was only 10 and probably pushing claims to be the youngest player ever to play for the 5’s. The fact was any score below 200 was going to be a hard task on a ground with a short boundary lengthways and the ball sitting up slowly. The home side were very comfortable with chasing targets and saw a victory against a weakened Radlett team. Our man of the match was Toby for a strong all round performance and bringing depth to our innings with a 51. This first loss for Captain Vikram puts Radlett 5’s in a surprise 1st position in the league which is amazing for this stage in the season’s quest to go higher.
