Radlett CC 5th XI v Stevenage on Sat 10 Jun 2006 at 13:30
Radlett CC Won 3 wickets

Match report Radlett fielded another strong team to face the low ebb Stevenage being in Division 10 season before last. Queens school pitch seemed a good batting strip with something for the bowlers too. Mercurial Mike Dexter returned along with Chris Brown from injury and sensational Keerthi. Vikram won the toss for a 3rd time in a row and elected to field on a baking day.

Vikram and Chris Brown opened the bowling and Chris quickly found his rhythm from a short run up. Vikram bowled tight lines in his first 6 over spell to restrict scoring. Scoring rate eased from 3 up to 4 in the first 25 overs. Stevenage openers were quite confident and probably the best faced so far. Before letting lose Chris dislodged the opener with a caught behind. This began the tumble of steady wickets with Keerthi and Matt taking 2 each. The no. 5 a rather large looking slogger was dropped twice to Radletts dismay and soon he too was bowled. Matt managed to find a good line and he bowled well along with Keerthi. Niranka restricted the late middle order with fielders in the outfield and being our only spin bowler gave our attack the variation it needed also taking his first wicket. Overall a good bowling display reaped Stevenage 191 runs in the full 53 overs.

Radlett opened the batting with youthful Alex Asher and the perennial Mike with a partnership of 98 Asher was creaming the ball to all areas and showed good confidence and footwork to overcome the average bowling on offer. On dismissal entered Nick Robinson who showed a classy act for a 16 year old and really took on the bowlers with timed drives, lofted and cover shots. Run rate pushed to asking rate of 4 and all was looking merry for Radlett until Nick got bowled score on 146 (36th over). So 11 overs to get 46 runs was achievable with 8 wickets at hand. A middle order slow collapse gave way to Toby Sutherland who hit a dominant 25 not out to bring Radlett home after Mike was given a dubious lbw for 55 (2nd successive fifty). Stevenage really didn’t know what had hit them with the number of overthrows and poor fielding added to their workload. As our batsmen had many more scoring shots to play hit a lot more boundaries and a sensible team effort made the target quite possible. Opposition after scoring 191 really felt they had set a high target but with the force Radlett are currently it will make it hard for any team. This leaves Radlett joint top of Division 12 and undefeated. This was a fine win for Radlett and now they can accelerate throughout the season.
