Boxmoor v Radlett CC 4th XI on Sat 24 Jun 2006 at 13:30
Radlett CC Won 6 wickets
Match report
Matt Bell’s team made the short trip over to Boxmore, knowing that 30 points were desperately needed.
Boxmore won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a good, hard wicket. Some over night rain had put some life into the pitch and the Radlett opening bowlers looked to exploit that with the new ball.
For the first time this season, Radlett’s fielding was not just adequate, but of the highest standard. An excellent opening spell on a ground where quick runs were very possible saw Boxmore’s top batter, Brooke Townsend, frustrated at not being able to get away. He slashed at a good length ball outside off stump from Jimmy Eyre and the chance was smartly taken by Vice Captain Wells at first slip. More good bowling from Meepa at the other end saw the home side struggle to 80 – 5 after 28 overs.
Mark Gray continued his great from in the field this term, by making two tough chances look very easy. The fielding enabled Bell to create pressure from both ends, and although a good lower order stand put Boxmore back in the match, Radlett were always on top. The innings finally came to an end in the 48th over with the total on 172.
All the bowlers did their bit, but a special mention goes to Dizzy, who put in his best performance for the club with the ball, returning figures or 6 for 29 from his 15 overs. He was well backed up by Meepa and Chris Brown, both putting in top spells up the hill. Toby Sutherland deserves a pat on the back after his episode with a wayward dog dirt whilst chasing a ball to the boundary!!!
The reply started in aggressive fashion. The captain and Robbie Coltraine wannabe, Matt Bell took a liking to the opening bowler and with one over completed, the score had raced to 24-0. With Bell in good touch, it was left to Wells to anchor the innings.
Bell was out for a rapid 32 and Dizzy an aggressive 23. With overs never going to feature after the electrifying start, Radlett continued the chase at around a run a ball. Teddy Edwards showed his worth and put on 45 with Wells for the 3rd wicket and when he was harshly given out LBW, the game was virtually won. Yogi played some sweet shots on his arrival to the crease but tried one shot too many in an attempt to finish the job quickly. Wells hit the winning runs to finish 81no, in the 27th over completing a thumping victory.
