Match report James Eyre, our Cat and Fiddle barman, is good at pulling pints, pulling boundaries, pulling whatever you can think of .. but Radlett IV still cannot win a Division Six cricket match.

The Australian hit 95 against Cockfosters II, his first league fifty, and took three wickets, but Radlett went down by three wickets in the last over at Cobden Hill. It was another great game of cricket, but the wrong result for the second week in a row.

Matt Bell decided to bat and saw his side slip to 78 for five before Eyre, striking the ball beautifully for his 14 fours and a burst of three sixes in one over, inspired a recovery, helped by a rapid partnership of 80 with Mark Gray. Eyre was dropped at mid-on in the 30s, but deserved his luck before he was caught on the midwicket boundary going for his hundred..

Gray supported sensibly for his 59 and with Luca Guerrini added another 73 for the seventh wicket until a run-out marked Bell’s early declaration. Guerrini, 15, showed his improvement under Shane Burger’s coaching with cleverly judged shots – a fearless pull perhaps the stroke of his innings.

Cockfosters were given 49 overs and were reduced to 64 for four and 130 for six, but a blast for 50 by their own Wells – no relation to Jamie – turned the game. Though Radlett’s fielding held up, the bowling simply was not steady enough. Cockfosters left themselves needing only five off the final over.
