Radlett CC 4th XI v Totteridge II on Sat 03 Jun 2006 at 13:30

Match report
Fortunately these sort of stalemate games are rare. Matt Bell and Charlie Randall built a useful platform to chase 230, an enormous score on a typical early season slow, low pitch, but the task of scoring five runs an over for 47 overs left little room for manoeuvre.
Even a slight loss of momentum, when Matt Bell, James Eyre and Tony Peck were dismissed, meant Radlett needed to be tempted to chase victory from about halfway through. Instead newly promoted Totteridge used seam-bowlers to a spread field. A belated attempt to introduce spin was unsuccessful as both off-spinners threw the ball and indeed one of them was ordered out of the attack by the Totteridge umpire, a sensible move that might avoid serious trouble later in the season.
Richard Hardy earned a fourth batting point for a total of 13 against Totteridge’s 15. Neither side took the required risks.
One Radlett high point was the six victims claimed by wicketkeeper Kailash Morjaria, including a stumping off his boot not in the MCC coaching manual. Eyre finished with five wickets for 49, helped dramatically by Randall’s clever ploy of being driven for three soaring sixes, all lost outside the ground. The fourth replacement ball happened to be almost new, and Eyres promptly took three wickets in the next over with it, all caught behind.
Opinion was divided as to whether Radlett had a reasonable day in the field. A crucial catch in the deep was dropped, and the beneficiary went on to a hard-hit 87 not out. Even though the bowling could have been better, Totteridge’s run rate was not much better than Radlett’s.
