Match report A fabulous win as the boys finally get their league campaign off. The week leading up to the game had been a nightmare with cry off’s for holiday, half term, district games, county games, Jewish Holidays etc. So much so I was not sure how many boys would turn up to play. I asked my 7 year old daughter to be on standby!!!! In the end Simeon was on standby to field as we knew one player had to leave at 8.00pm.

I was on umpiring duties for the Watford Observer game and in stepped Dhiresh and Anju Shah to help run the team and ensure that there was the support on the day. My eternal thanks for your help.

The game itself turned out to be a thriller with it going right to the wire and featured a top class bowling performance by 12 year old Rikin Shah who ended up with 4 for 19.

Radlett’s innings was based around a violent and thrilling 37 from Simon Moses who will be kicking himself for not getting 50. The rest of the innings was based around everyone else chipping in and Daniel Cohen using Dad’s bat to score a well crafted (So he tells me) 11 not out. 110 represents a challenging if not insurmountable total.

The Hemel innings was built around a well judged and hard hit 50 from George Ahie who has caused us trouble in the past. The bowling seemed good and a real captains decision needed to be made in the last over when Captain Sahil could have called upon Daniel, Pavir or Rushab but chose his little brother Rikin. Rikin came through by bowling straight and got 2 wickets and a run out to end with 4 – 19 to allow a thrilling 9 run victory.

Thanks to Ina Patel for acting as club doctor when young Smart got hit by his batting partner and ended up in hospital but I am pleased to report he has nothing more than severe bruising and a dented reputation. Thanks as well to Dhiresh and Anju for making it a right family occasion by running the team, scoring and Umpiring.
