Harpenden v Radlett CC 2nd XI on Sat 24 Jun 2006 at 13:30
Radlett CC Won 7 wickets
Match report
RADLETT II overcame Harpenden II with a powerful batting display in Division Three of the Herts League on Saturday.
Hosts Harpenden were asked to bat first at the Common and found themselves reduced to 30-3, Simon Jackson blasting out all three in a fine opening spell.
Harps recovered with an 80 run partnership from Simon Caunce (57) and Nathan Choudhury (42) but Radlett skipper Amjad Khan felt that, once the partnership was broken, Harps could have fallen for less than 200. However, Ollie Chinnock stepped in to smash 95 not out in brutal fashion off 60 balls and Harps ended on 232-8. Khan said: "It was largely down to Chinnock that they reached 230. He absolutely went bananas. He hit quite a few fours and sixes and got his 95 in around 60 deliveries."
Harpenden II skipper Rupert Garrett felt the total was always going to be short. He said: "I think if we had got 300 Radlett would have knocked them off. Simon Caunce made his fourth league 50 in a row and Nathan Choudhury did well on his first game back after university. Ollie Chinnock then went mad at the end and I was happy with our batting."
In reply, Nick Hampton (19) and Muhammad Akoojee put on 50 runs together before big hitter Brenden Hutchings joined Akoojee and they added 103. Akoojee was eventually out for 83 while Hutchings went on to guide the team home, finishing with 82 not out. Simon Gray also contributed 33 not out as Radlett reached 233-3 off 37.1 overs. Victorious skipper Khan said: "The fantastic partnership between Brenden Hutchings and Muhammad Akoojee was the backbone of the win for us. Brenden batted really, really solidly and Simon Gray had a lovely little innings at the end. Because we are a reasonable batting side we will chase whatever total is set."
Harps captain Garrett praised Radlett for a fine performance. He said: "They are an outstanding side. Their overseas player Akoojee is pure class. Some of their guys said they thought he was the best batsman at the club."
The 30 points keep Radlett II on top of Division Three and they host Stevenage II next week.
