Radlett CC Social XI v Aldenham School on Fri 05 May 2006 at 18:00

Match report
A competitive Aldenham Staff XI arrived at Radlett for the 3rd annual social fixture. With Radlett short of players for the 6pm start Aldenham agreed to field. Vikram and Chris Brown opened the batting and things weren't looking too healthy when Vikram was out 3rd ball. Eagle played a cameo role at 3. Tiz went in at 4 when the score looked decidedly dodgey. Some agricultural shots from both Brownie and Tiz quickly moved the score on and started to get the innings back towards 4/5 an over. When Aldenham finally removed both bats in consecutive overs Copley and Wells were brought to the crease. They batted steadily and kept the run rate going. After a couple of overs George was back in the groove smashing the ball all over the park. By the time the partnership was broken the score was about 100 after 16 overs. George was retired at 30 (for a brief, needed rest!) The tail of Ron Comfort, Andy Wright, Matt Barrett and Rishi added a few more precious runs to end the innings on 112 for 7 after 20 overs.
Time was of the essence as Radlett took the field needing to get through 20 overs in little over an hour before the light went. The opening batting pair also opened the bowling. The first two wickets falling to Chris Brown banana balls, whic completely undid the batsmen. Vikram joined the party in his second over with a generous LBW decision from Iain Fraser, who obviously took pleasure from triggering his own teachers! Everyone took two overs with the ball and wickets fell steadily throughout the innings, although Aldenham kept their chase close to the required rate and with strength lower down were confident in achieving their target, despite some miserly bowling from man of the match Copley. By the time Chris Brown took the gloves from Matt Barrett there were only 4 overs left in the evening gloom and Aldenham, with 4 wickets remaining, needed only about 20 runs to win the game. Wellsy and Matt Barrett bowled out the final four overs in the twilight, taking three omore wickets and restricting the Aldenham side to 112 for 9 afetr 20 overs.
Another excellent game between the sides finished in a nail-biting finale with a closely competed tie. Many thanks to all involved, in particular to Gay for providing the food, James for manning the bar and Chris Brown for his help after the game with ground duty.
