Match report Radlett opened up the 2006 season in fine style with a comprehensive 8 wkt victory in a 45-overs a side friendly against Uxbridge. The visitors, who will be featuring in the Middlesex Premier League this season, won the toss and elected to bat, but they struggled against the accuracy of Radletts seamers, notably Stuart Browne who continued where he left off last season with a miserly spell of 1-17 off 10 overs. The highlight of the early stages was undoubtedly Rob Watson, aged 15, claiming a wicket with his first delivery on his debut for the club first team, a fine out swinger expertly pouched by keeper Steve Lowe. Watson went on to claim 2-36, and along with Shane Burger (2-26) and Haydn Smith (1-35) a tight rein was kept throughout the innings, Uxbridge eventually struggling to 156-7 off their 45 overs, which represented something of a recovery from 52-4.

In reply, Radlett got off to a positive start through Haydn Smith and Nick Fielden, the former punishing anything loose with clinical efficiency, the latter judging singles expertly. Once Haydn Smith was dismissed for 22, Rob Swith took over and reeled off a succession of magnificent drives as if batting on a mid-July belter. His well compiled 61 took Radlett to the brink of victory, which was secured with some 9 overs to spare, Fielden seeing the job through with 47 not out.
