Bushey v Radlett CC Midweek XI on Tue 21 Jun 2011 at 6:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 29 Runs

Match report By Anthony Matthews »

Radlett may be struggling in the top flight of the Home Counties Premier League but they can look forward to a first-ever appearance in the final of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield after beating Bushey by 29 runs at Abbots Langley tonight.

Having made 157 for five off their 14, eight-ball-over allocation, the Cobden Hill side rarely looked in danger of not completing the job, although their Herts League Division Five opponents took credit from recovering from 23 for four to see through their innings through.

Despite being asked to field, Bushey’s opening attack of Israr Hussain (one for 37 off four overs) and Muhammed Asif (nought for 43 off four) bowled well to restrict their opponents to 53 for one by the halfway stage.

By this stage though, Fraser Crawford and Saturday skipper Shane Burger were well set and in the eighth over they took their partnership beyond the 50-mark, hitting Qamar Shahzad (two for 32 off two) for 20.

Although Burger (28) fell to Shaheed (two for 52 off four) in the next over, the acceleration continued as Crawford and Grant Mokoena took the score from 84 for two to 123 for two before the former perished for a fine 62 off the last ball of the 11th over.

Shahzad claimed two wickets in as many deliveries in the next over to briefly stem the tide, only for Matt Lewis (11 not out) and Tom Jenkins (19 not out) to score 30 off the last 19 deliveries to see Radlett up to their total.

An early finish to the semi-final looked on the cards after Mokoena (three for 25 off four) and Burger (two for 31 off four) ripped through the top of the Bushey order to leave them in disarray inside three overs.

Naseer Nawaz (21) and Lakhmir Singh also rode their luck at times after coming to the crease but, crucially, kept their wickets intact and began to consolidate the reply to the extent that Bushey were ahead of their opponents at the halfway stage.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, Radlett’s collective superior ability shone through in the end, although Singh batted superbly and ended unbeaten on 60 after finishing the match with his fourth six of the evening.

Radlett will now meet either Watford Haidery or Home Counties rivals Hemel Hempstead Town in the final at Watford Town’s Woodside ground on Tuesday, July 5.
