Match report Radlett Under 9 B (the Year 3 boys) had their first match of the season yesterday at Old Albanians. It was a sunny day, with a light breeze, on a perfectly manicured artificial pitch. Daniel - as this week's captain - won the toss and decided to bat first as it was the first proper match for the whole team and they thought they might just watch the opposition fielding first.

The boys had obviously decided to play themselves in for the season with some marvellous defensive batting, off very accurate bowling by Old Albanians. The boys grabbed the extras from the wides wherever they could and tactically chose to be very prudent in running between the wicket - not really looking for the quick singles. Radlett's innings ended on a very respectable 224 for 4.

Old Albanians were more confident in their batting, and placed the ball just over the heads of the fielders allowing themselves to collect a few boundaries. The wicketkeeper role was rotated with some very polished displays by Zak, William and Ayur. Ben took out a middle stump on his first ball, and Daniel caught and bowled one of the Old Albanians star middle order batsmen in the next over, but the last few overs yielded to some big hitting by OAs(including a marvellous 6 off the last ball) and OAs reached 326 for 2.

So - unfortunately a loss for the U9B side, but there a lot of budding superstars in this team and, following a few practices, we'll be looking very good indeed.
