Match report First game of the season at home in cold and overcast condition we start our 2011 campaign against ever so friendly opposition Chorleywood. The game had everything one would expect and gone down to the wire - in fact to the last over.
Chorleywood captain called it wrong and Radlett captain Adi decided to bat first. Opening pair Josh and Christian start with caution and adopt to the condition very well. Despite losing 2 wickets they manage to come back with 17 runs in the bag, a solid start helped build the momentum for the boys.
2nd pair William and Neo found it bit difficult but we are still in the plus. We lose 3 wickets and not finding any boundary, the team total is 209.
3rd pair Mipham and Neer had to dig us out and prove to be the best batting partnership of the Radlett innings. Mipham played the match winning innings with his bat, even though both scored nothing in their 1st 2 overs. And when Mipham got used to the slow ball and waited for the ball to come he scored 14 runs pulling and hooking on his leg side. Most importantly they didn't give their wickets away and we see ourselves in a very strong position with a score of 235 on the board.
The final pair, Sayef and Adi add another 20 runs on the board despite losing each of their wickets, and Radlett end their innings with 255. A defendable total and we thought it should be just enough and it was but didn't come before a nail biting climax.

In reply Chorleywood made a steady start, they were 213 after the first pair, 233 after the 2nd and 249 after the 3rd pair. During this time only Neo and Mipham got one wicket a piece and Chorleywood managed to score quietly as we were giving away extras. However things turned a bit in our way when we got one lucky run out after the ball's been overthrown and on the 2nd attempt we found one stranded in the middle of wicket. A good throw from backward deep point by Neo was the key and even though Sayef didn't get hold of it cleanly, he managed to take the bails off just in time before the batter was back on his crease.
So the final pair enter the arena needing just 7 runs to win and they manage to level the score on the 15th over. Neo's accurate ball deserved the last over and didn't he deliver it? He bowled the Chorleywood batsman out on his 1st ball and we sense the victory here, and on his 3rd ball he does it again and now it's surely done.
1st match of the season and we start with a high and overall the team played really well - however there are lot of strong opposition who would easily chase this score. Likewise if we don't give our wickets away (we lost 8 wickets = 40 runs!) that often and that easy - I don't think we will be easily beaten by anybody this year.

Mipham had a briant knock but debutante Neo is man of the match.
