Chorleywood v Radlett CC U11 on Wed 29 Jun 2011 at 6.00
Radlett CC Won 8 Wickets

Match report Once again, our fantastic bowling ability stifled any chance of Chorleywood getting a good score. Max Sahota and James McCallum bowled well in tandem to keep the Chorleywood openers honest, and Max managed to snaffle two great wickets to peg them back. Josh de Caires, an Under 10’s player, was brought in first change and bowled a good line at a lively pace. Again, the adherence to a good line and length paid dividends and scoring was becoming increasingly difficult.

Spin was introduced early by skipper Rahil Thapar, and in true “Swann” style he managed to get two wickets in his first over! He was denied his hat trick (an interesting leg spinning yorker well kept out by the batsman) but bowled a tidy spell to increase the pressure on Chorleywood.

George Leigh was next up, and I must say that I was very impressed by his spell. He bowled an accurate spell at good pace, and was generating considerable movement both on and off the pitch. He managed to get a wicket with the ideal ball for any left arm seamer; starting outside off and swinging in to knock back middle stump!

As is Radlett’s want, the bowling and fielding just got better and better. William Stevens, another Under 10’s player, bowled a very impressive over resulting in a wicket and a handful of runs. Zak Wolpe also bowled well (aside from the odd full toss!) but it was his quick reflexes in the field that earned him a run out.

Chorleywood had reached 70 for 7. Zechariah Mohamed was given the ball and started his over off with a wide. Chorleywood might have seen this as an opportunity to get the scoreboard going, but any hopes were dashed by two excellent deliveries that pitched and turned in to knock over middle stump.

Radlett were set 72 to win. Max and Rahil opened the innings and were initially circumspect against the Chorleywood opening bowlers, who bowled a good line at a decent pace. Max was unfortunately bowled early in his innings, which brought Josh to the crease. Rahil and Josh proceeded to bat very maturely in an unbroken stand, with Rahil playing particularly aggressively after his initial slow start. The pair took advantage of some fielding mishaps, and the short boundaries to put on 52 runs for the second wicket. Rahil had to retire at 32, but he had played a captains innings and the match was all but won.

Samuel Stain was next in, and he batted patiently against some tight bowling. He was unfortunately caught playing a lovely shot of his legs, which brought Zak to the crease. Zak played a great little cameo innings, including two great cover drives, to take Radlett over the line.

Great result for the boys. Lets hope it gets us to the quarter finals!
